Evaluating Teamwork in the Submarine and Medical Fields

I had the pleasure recently of sitting down with Julia Bergman, the Defense reporter at The Day, Southeast Connecticut's regional newspaper, to talk about the Submarine Team Behaviors Tool and its possible application for medical teams. Colleagues Rick Severinghaus, Cynthia Lamb, and myself appeared on a panel at the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society's Healthcare Symposium.
"There, they introduced the tool to the medical community and hope it can help that community build more resilient teams especially in surgical and emergency trauma situations."
There are a lot of challenges with this idea… medical teams are very different from submarine teams. But they are teams… and teams can be taught to work better together...
